1. Tickets to enter a one off prize draw (raffle) run by Woking & Sam Beare Hospices can be purchased via a specific raffles mailing, online, from one of our Retail outlets, on occasion from specific designated outlets or in person either by request to the Raffles team or at a Hospice led event.

  2. All tickets purchased will be entered into the draw stated on the counterfoil of the paper ticket, acknowledgement of purchase online or till receipt.

  3. We limit the number of entries per person to 50.

  4. All supporters in receipt of the raffles mailing will receive 24 entries but may, by request, purchase additional tickets to a maximum of 50, unless being sold on.

  5. All tickets purchased at a cost of £1 per entry will be entered into the appropriate draw, as published on the ticket. In the event a draw is delayed it will take place as soon as possible.

  6. In each one off prize draw there are 5 guaranteed cash prizes available to be won. The prize amounts offered can vary from draw to draw. Prize winners are notified by telephone normally within 1 week of the draw taking place.

  7. The winning numbers are published in the local press, on social media, on our website, in our retail shops and in Woking Hospice reception. Prizes will be in the form of sterling cheques and made payable in the purchaser’s name as indicated on the ticket stub or online acknowledgement of purchase. Should single tickets be marked to be donated back to the hospice, the winning sum will be donated to Woking Hospice via an internal transfer of funds. If registered for gift aid then the gift aid will be claimed against the donation.

  8. The cheques are mailed direct to the winning supporter’s address as recorded on the ticket stub or online purchase acknowledgement. Tickets purchased via the mailing, in person or via one of our retail outlets can be via personal cheque or debit card. Cash payments will only be accepted for a small quantity of tickets as determined by the Lottery & Raffles Manager at the point of sale but will not normally exceed £24.

  9. Payment via the online raffles page is by debit card only. The website is facilitated by a third party and all and any data is passed to Woking & Sam Beare hospices via secure means.

  10. Any un-cashed prizes will, after a period of 12 weeks, be treated as a general donation to Woking & Sam Beare Hospices.

  11. We reserve the right not to accept a request to purchase tickets at our absolute discretion. Any such rejection or cancellation may be reconsidered on submission of a written appeal to the Lottery & Raffles Manager within 7 days. The decision of the Lottery & Raffles Manager will be final.

  12. All purchasers are solely responsible for providing Woking & Sam Beare Hospices with their accurate and up-to-date contact details and Woking & Sam Beare Hospices will be in no way liable for any failure or inability to contact a purchaser due to any errors, omissions or inaccuracies in the contact details that the purchaser has provided. In the event that a purchaser changes their contact details following purchase of a raffle ticket/s, they will be solely responsible for advising Woking & Sam Beare Hospices of the change.

  13. Where a purchaser is reported to Woking & Sam Beare Hospices as deceased following a win in the raffle contact will be made with the Next of kin (NOK) or Executor, if known. We will ask for independent documented confirmation that the person is the NOK or executor of the estate in order to accept their instruction. Failing that we will write to the last known address of the deceased, requesting contact be made. After a period of 12 months, if no contact has been established, with either NOK or executor, the prize will be treated as a donation to Woking & Sam Beare Hospices.

  14. For reference a raffle is a lottery and therefore must abide by all such points as are relevant from the main Woking & Sam Beare Hospices Lottery terms & conditions as adapted below in points 15 to 30.

  15. An instruction to be self-excluded, as defined in the Gambling Act 2005, from the Woking & Sam Beare Hospices Lottery or one off prize draws may be submitted in writing or telephoned through to the lottery office or emailed to us. Customers wishing to use this facility will not be able to re-join the lottery for a minimum of 6 months from the date of exclusion and then expanded in 6 monthly increments.

  16. The requirements of the Gambling Act 2005 mean that the Woking & Sam Beare Hospices Lottery has a statutory duty to verify that you are 16 years old or over and reside in Great Britain. It is an offence for anyone under the age of 16 years to participate in a lottery. However, Woking & Sam Beare Hospices lottery & raffles stipulates all players must be 18 years or over in order to participate. By purchasing a ticket in a one off prize draw, individuals are agreeing to the Woking & Sam Beare Hospices Lottery carrying out checks in any way it may deem appropriate. This may include references to credit and government agencies.

  17. Woking & Sam Beare Hospices Lottery is a member of The Hospice Lotteries Association who on behalf of their members make a financial contribution towards the Responsible Gambling Trust the leading organisation that provides practical help to problem gamblers.   18. All complaints and disputes will be dealt with in accordance with our policy, a copy of which is available from the Woking & Sam Beare Hospices Lottery office. In the event a complaint or dispute cannot be resolved, it will be referred to alternative dispute resolution.   19. We promise to comply with all Data Protection Act requirements and protect your personal data as well as storing securely debit card data for those members who pay by this method. It will be appreciated by purchasers that Woking & Sam Beare Hospices Lottery cannot accept liability for the loss or delays in or theft of any communication sent by post, email or fax, or for any delays in the banking system.

  20. All profits from our one off prize draws go directly towards funding the care and support that is given to our patients and their families. No charge is made to our patients and their families for the care we give.

  21. No employed member of Woking & Sam Beare Hospices Lottery team or gambling licence Annex A holders may purchase tickets in our one off prize draws. All other paid staff, volunteers and trustees of the Woking & Sam Beare Hospices Charity staff may purchase tickets.

  22. The Promoter will take all reasonable steps to ensure payment received into its bank account intended for entry into a one off prize draw is considered as a stake in the draw. In the event of ambiguous credits into the bank account the Promoter will take reasonable steps to confirm the intention of these monies from the sender of these monies and act accordingly.

  23. Purchases of tickets in a one off prize draw cannot attract Gift Aid.

  24. Purchasers pay in advance for a number of chances in a one off prize draw. Once payment has been made it will be the Promoter’s decision as to whether a refund can be made on said purchase. Refunds can only be made in exceptional circumstances. Once the draw has taken place no refund will be made under any circumstance.

  25. Debit card payments will be accepted either face to face, in the lottery office, by mail or via telephone. The player must be the cardholder. The Promoter will not take any further card payments without permission from the cardholder. The Promoter will hold a record of any and all transactions. Payment via credit card is not permitted.

  26. If the transaction is made by mail then the following will apply. In the event of the transaction failing the Promoter will inform the prospective purchaser of this failure and would expect to include reasons for this failure. The prospective purchaser will be asked whether they still wish to purchase a ticket/s and if so would need to supply alternative payment.

  27. If the transaction is conducted via telephone the following will apply. The purchaser will be informed after the call if the transaction has failed. The purchaser will be offered a copy of the debit card receipt.

In 2022, £383,390 was raised from ticket sales in our Weekly Lottery and seasonal Raffle draws. From this sum, 19% was spent on Prizes and 16% was spent on Expenses. This means that 65% was used to help deliver specialist palliative care to people who have advanced life-limiting conditions and to support their carers and families. This translates to a fantastic £250,627! (Based on the Lottery Submissions made by Woking and Sam Beare Hospices to the Gambling Commission for 2022).
